The BMW Group has launched a pilot project at its Leipzig Plant, introducing humanoid robots into production for the first time in Germany, following successful trials in Spartanburg, US. These physical AI systems, such as AEON and Figure 02, are designed to support human employees by handling repetitive and physically demanding tasks, thereby enhancing efficiency and allowing human workers to focus on more complex, value-added activities. This strategic move aims to integrate advanced robotics and AI directly into manufacturing, aligning with the BMW iFACTORY vision for flexible, efficient, and future-ready production.
Our aim is to be a technology leader and integrate new technologies into production early. Pilot projects help us test and evolve the use of adaptive AI-enabled robots - also known as 'physical AI' - in a real-world industrial setting.
